MMA & Martial Arts Classes in Bahria Town

Coached MMA and karate on a fixed evening timetable, with the boxing corner behind the striking. What we run, what we do not, and what it costs.

Raees Fitness & Boxing Gym runs a coached MMA public class from 8:00 to 9:00 pm and a karate class from 5:00 to 6:00 pm, six days a week, at both Bahria Town branches — Phase 7 (2nd floor, Wallayat Complex, Emirates Plaza, Islamabad side) and Phase 8 (1st floor, Burj Ul Sadiq, Abu Baker Avenue, Rawalpindi side). Each class is Rs 10,000 a month with a one-off Rs 20,000 registration fee, and the boxing class at 6:00 to 7:00 pm runs on the same terms. The striking in the MMA class is built on that boxing base. A one-to-one Personal Class is Rs 30,000 a month. Beginners are the normal case, women train in the class, and the gym is closed on Sunday.

MMA has a specific problem in this region: a lot of places advertise it and very few teach it. A bag, a mat and somebody who has watched a lot of fights is not a class, and you will find that out in about three weeks — usually after paying for three months.

What we actually run is an MMA public class on a fixed timetable, a karate class before it, and a boxing class between the two, coached by people who have fought and cornered fighters. The striking in the MMA hour is built on the boxing corner rather than invented separately, which is the right way round and the reason the two classes complement each other.

This page sets out the timetable, the fee including the registration fee, who the classes suit, and — the section most pages leave out — the disciplines we do not teach, so you are not travelling across Bahria Town for a muay thai class that does not exist.

Straight answers

What we teach — and what we do not

People search for disciplines nobody here teaches. Rather than stay vague about it, this is the whole list.

  • MMA

    Public class, 8:00–9:00 pm

Six days a week, Rs 10,000 a month plus the Rs 20,000 registration fee. Striking, clinch and ground work, coached, with beginners in every intake.

  • Boxing

    Public class, 6:00–7:00 pm

The base the MMA striking is built on. Same fee and registration terms. Most members who are serious about MMA end up in both.

  • Karate

    Class, 5:00–6:00 pm

Six days a week on the same terms, and the class most of the younger members start in.

  • Self-defence

    Runs, within the striking work

Awareness, distance and escape rather than a syllabus. Open to complete beginners, including women and teenagers.

  • Kickboxing

    Not a separate class

There is no standalone kickboxing class on the timetable. The striking in the MMA hour covers a great deal of the same ground, so ask what you are after and we will tell you honestly whether it fits.

  • Muay Thai, BJJ, taekwondo

    Not taught here

We do not run classes in these. A taekwondo black belt trains on our matted area and appears in the gallery, but that is a member training, not a class we teach. Better you know now.

Why here

What makes the class worth the fee

  • Striking built on real boxing

The hands come from the boxing corner — Zahoor Abbas coaches boxing at Phase 7 and the club competes. MMA striking taught by somebody who has only ever taught MMA striking is a common and expensive mistake.

  • A fixed timetable

Karate at 5, boxing at 6, MMA at 8, six days a week, to the clock. A class that drifts by twenty minutes is a class people stop attending, and attendance is the whole game in a skill sport.

  • Beginners every intake

You do not need a background, a fitness base or any kit. Most people in the room started with none of those, and the first weeks are fundamentals for everybody.

  • Progression you can see

Fundamentals, then pads and partner work, then controlled sparring once your defence holds. Nobody is thrown into a hard round to find out how they cope.

  • Open floor around the class

The gym floor runs 24 hours a day on all six open days, so the strength and conditioning that MMA actually demands can happen at whatever hour suits — not squeezed into the same hour as the class.

  • Two branches, one membership

Phase 7 on the Islamabad side, Phase 8 on the Rawalpindi side, identical rates and coaching. Train at whichever is the shorter run that evening.

Who it suits

Six reasons people walk in, and what changes for each

Fitness, self-defence and competition produce three different training plans. Say which at the induction.

You have never trained a combat sport

This is who the class is built around. Expect several weeks of stance, guard, distance and footwork before anything that feels like fighting, and expect the conditioning to be the hardest part at first. No background is needed and nobody in the room started with one.

You want the fitness, not the cage

An MMA hour is the most complete conditioning work most people will ever do, and it is interesting in a way that a treadmill is not. A large share of the class has no intention of ever competing, and nobody will push you towards it.

You want to defend yourself

The practical answer is distance, awareness and the footwork to leave — which is most of what the striking work teaches before it teaches anything else. The self-defence content sits inside the class rather than being sold as a separate course.

You want to compete

Say so at the induction. The training, the sparring load and the conditioning are all different from what the fitness members get, and the coaches have cornered fighters.

You are a parent asking for a child

Karate at 5:00 pm is where most younger members start. There is no sparring until defence holds up, that is not negotiable, and you are welcome to stay and watch the whole session before deciding.

You already train and want partners

If you have a base and want partner work with people who can actually hold pads and a coach who will tell you the truth about your defence, you can walk in and work.

Fees

What the classes cost, registration included

Published rather than quoted at reception, and identical at both branches.

ClassRegistrationMonthly
MMA Public ClassRs 20,000Rs 10,000per month
Boxing Public ClassRs 20,000Rs 10,000per month
Personal ClassRs 20,000Rs 30,000per month

The other half

The class is one hour. The third round is won on the floor.

The part of MMA that decides fights is not technique, it is whether you still have technique in the third round. That is a strength and conditioning problem, and it is solved on the gym floor rather than in the class hour.

Which is the practical reason to hold both a class membership and a floor membership: the floor is open 24 hours a day on all six open days, so the lifting and the cardio go wherever they fit around work. Strength starts at Rs 4,500 a month, cardio and strength at Rs 6,000, and couple or group rates bring it to Rs 5,500 per person.

If you want that programmed rather than guessed, Gym With Trainer is Rs 19,500 a month and Gym + Cardio + Trainer is Rs 25,500. A coach writes the split around your class days so the two do not fight each other, which is the mistake people make when they add lifting to a combat sport on their own.

Timings

The evening timetable

Three classes back to back, six days a week, to the clock. Closed on Sunday.

  • Karate

    5:00 pm – 6:00 pm

    Six days a week

  • Boxing

    6:00 pm – 7:00 pm

    Six days a week

  • MMA

    8:00 pm – 9:00 pm

    Six days a week

The gym floor is a separate thing from the classes: open 24 hours, 6 days a week, 24 hours a day. So the usual pattern is a class in the evening and strength or cardio work at whatever hour suits.

Starting out

Your first evening, step by step

  1. 1

    Message first

WhatsApp with the branch that is nearer, which class you are after, and whether you have trained before. You will be told which evening to come and who to ask for.

  2. 2

    Watch an hour

Stand at the side of the 8:00 pm MMA class, or the 5:00 pm karate class for a child, and watch the whole thing before paying anything. Most people decide in the first twenty minutes.

  3. 3

    What to bring

Trainers you can move in, a t-shirt, water. No gloves, no shin guards, no mouthguard to start. Buy kit once you know you are staying and ask the coaches first.

  4. 4

    The induction

A coach walks you through the floor and the class structure and asks what you are here for — fitness, self-defence or competition. Those three produce different training.

Questions

MMA & martial arts — frequently asked

When does the MMA class run?
8:00 to 9:00 pm, six days a week, closed on Sunday. Karate runs 5:00 to 6:00 pm and boxing 6:00 to 7:00 pm. The gym floor itself is open 24 hours a day on all six open days.
What does the MMA class cost?
Rs 10,000 a month, with a one-off Rs 20,000 registration fee. Boxing and karate are the same. A one-to-one Personal Class is Rs 30,000 a month. Gym floor membership is separate and starts at Rs 4,500.
Is there an MMA gym in Islamabad or Rawalpindi I can reach?
Both of our branches are inside Bahria Town — Phase 7 on the Islamabad side and Phase 8 on the Rawalpindi side — and the same classes run at each on one membership.
Do you teach kickboxing?
Not as a separate class. The striking in the MMA hour covers much of the same ground, and the boxing class covers the hands properly. Tell us what you are actually after on WhatsApp and we will say honestly whether it fits.
Do you teach muay thai, jiu jitsu or taekwondo?
No. We run MMA, boxing, karate and self-defence. A taekwondo black belt trains on our matted area and appears in the gallery, but that is a member training rather than a class we teach.
I am a complete beginner. Can I join the MMA class?
Yes, and most people do. The first weeks are fundamentals for everybody, no fitness base is needed, and the conditioning is part of what you are coming for rather than something to have beforehand.
Will I have to spar?
Only when your defence holds up, and only supervised. Plenty of members train for the fitness and the skill and never spar at all.
Can women train in the MMA class?
Yes, on the same terms. The gym also reserves 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on the floor for women, six days a week, and has a female coach on the Phase 8 team.
What age do you take?
Karate at 5:00 pm is where most younger members start, and teenagers train in the striking classes. Message us with the age first so the right class and coach are arranged.
Do I need my own gloves or a mouthguard?
Not to start. Trainers, a t-shirt and water are enough for a first session. Ask the coaches before buying anything so the money goes on the right kit.
Should I do MMA or boxing?
If you want to learn to fight with your hands properly, start with boxing — it is the base, and the MMA striking is built on it. If you want the full range including clinch and ground work, start with MMA. Several members do both, since the classes are two hours apart.
Is there a cage or a ring on site?
The classes train on mats, bags and pads, and bouts are fought at competitions rather than on our premises. If a cage or ring on site is what you specifically want, ask before travelling.

The quickest way to judge an MMA class is to watch one. Come and stand at the side of the 8:00 pm hour, see who is coaching and how the beginners are handled, and decide from that rather than from a page.

Message on WhatsApp with the branch that is nearer and whether you have trained before. You will get a straight answer about the class, the fee including registration, and what we do not teach.
